One of the objectives of a network of language and linguistics scholars in Georgia would be to enhance opportunities for collaborative research. To that end, we are interested in hearing your input on how the GLN might be designed to facilitate this type of exchange.
Are there any language or linguistics-related events that other faculty and students in GA might be interested in attending?
We would like to know more about upcoming language or linguistics-related events (e.g., conferences, talks, etc.) in and around the state of Georgia. One objective of the GLN would be to provide additional promotion of such events. Here are few examples of upcoming events:

The Greater Atlanta Undergraduate Linguistics Symposium provides an opportunity for students to get together and share their linguistic interests, questions, and research in a relaxed and cooperative environment. The symposium will be organized into round-tables focusing on various topics. You may participate as an audience member, but you are encouraged to sign up for one of the round-tables. As a round-table participant, you may present research at any stage (from proposed to completed) and ask other participants (or audience members) for feedback, general or specific. The focus is not on formal presentation, but rather on shared interest and inquiry.

Please consider joining us at the upcoming 81st Annual Convention of the South Atlanta Modern Language Association on Saturday, November 7th at 10:AM in the Georgia Ballroom East of the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown. Below is a brief description of the session:
This panel will be an open discussion on the formation of a new Georgia Linguistics Network (GLN). Our hope is to develop a localized (i.e. state level) academic community for those conducting research and /or teaching courses in linguistics throughout the state. This network will also facilitate public discussions of linguistics and language-related topics. Coming from different schools and career lines, each of the panelists will discuss what they would like to see from the GLN. However, the majority of the session will be dedicated to receiving input from the audience who are encouraged to offer any relevant input. Some ideas to be discussed include: internal networking and collaboration for members, an external presence for those looking for partnerships with linguists, a web site, local conferences or other public opportunities to present work, support for graduate student research, and collaborative funding initiatives.
